Gambling is entertainment. When it stops feeling like that, it’s time to pause.
A short, practical page on the tools every UKGC-licensed site is required to give you, and the free support that exists if you need it.
The tools every UK operator must offer
Every casino licensed by the UK Gambling Commission is required to provide, at minimum, deposit limits (daily, weekly, monthly), a time-out (a cool-off period from a few hours up to six weeks), a reality check that interrupts your session at set intervals, and a self-exclusion option lasting anything from six months upward. These aren’t optional extras and they aren’t a red flag — they’re the standard shape of a UK licence, and using them is normal.
GAMSTOP: one-click exclusion across every UK site
If you’d like to close the door on all UK-licensed gambling for a period — six months, one year or five years — GAMSTOP is the free national self-exclusion service. You register once and every UKGC-licensed operator is required to prevent you from opening or using an account for the length you chose. Removing yourself before the period ends is deliberately hard; that’s the point of it.
Signs it’s worth stepping back
- You’re playing longer sessions than you meant to, more often.
- You’re depositing to “win back” a previous loss.
- You’re hiding the activity from people who’d be concerned.
- The site’s reality check pop-up is starting to annoy you.
- Money that should be going elsewhere is going here first.
None of these on their own is a diagnosis of anything. Together, or persistently, they’re the flags most people who’ve been through it will tell you they wish they’d listened to earlier.
Free, confidential help
GamCare runs the National Gambling Helpline (0808 8020 133) — 24/7, free from UK phones, no wait for an assessment. They also offer moderated online chat and a peer-support forum.
GambleAware is the independent commissioning charity that funds the free treatment network, and their site is the fastest route into face-to-face, telephone and residential support.
If you’re worried about a friend or family member rather than yourself, both services have specific resources for you — you’re not on your own with it.
What this site will not do
Player List Roomwill never describe gambling as a way to make money, an income stream, or a strategy for anything financial. If it reads like that anywhere on the site, it’s a mistake and we want to know about it.
